Curriculum Newsletter – January 2014

A busy half term full of fun awaits us!!

Every day: Bring your book bag, reading book and accelerated reader book to school everyday. Children are expected to read their accelerated reader book at home everyday in order to reach their target.

Games: Indoor games games will take place on Tuesdays and outdoor games on Fridays, so please remind your child to bring the correct clothing. Trainers will be required for these lessons.

Homework: Learning Logs will be sent home on a Thursday and will consist of open ended tasks in literacy, numeracy and science or humanities. Spellings will also be sent home on a Thursday.

Learning Logs are to be handed in on a Tuesday. We will be having a Learning Log club during the week for you to ask questions about the task or to use computers to carry out research for your learning log. Spellings will be tested on a Tuesday.

English: We are going to be focusing on using Talk for Writing to think about writing persuasively. We will continue to improve our knowledge of sentence structure. We will make some links to our humanities work.

Maths: We will be using our most recent maths assessment to continue to strengthen our maths skills. We will be doing some work on shape properties, transforming and translating shapes, symmetry, time and percentages. Some children will be starting to extend their knowledge and practice new ideas using Accelerated Maths.

Science: Our topic is life cycles. We will be looking at the different parts of flowers and how new flowers are made.

Humanities: It’s time for a splendid term of geography. Our theme is based on World Climate and the changes that are going on around us. We will think about recycling and will link this to our D&T topic where we will be doing some upcycling.

PSHE: Our topic is going for goals. We will be reflecting on our learning behaviour as part of our weekly circle time sessions. We will be learning about how to become more resilient learners and how to think about what we need to do to be better learners.
